I have been working with Iona Craft Shop for many years to improve their Shopify store and add new features including in-person visits to move the project along quickly.
After helping to redesign and overhaul their Shopify store a few years ago, it was time for a refresh, especially as the shop was to be featured on the BBC’s ‘Designing the Hebrides’ series. I initially made a health check report, checking the website in detail for any issues and suggesting new features and changes to improve the site and SEO (search engine optimisation).
I’m always happy to visit the tiny island of Iona for a working holiday with the team. It really helps to be there in person to look at the website together, discuss issues and new features that match their stock and workflow, and quickly answer any questions that come up. Having this dedicated time to work on the project meant we could quickly make a plan and start work, with the main part of the redesign completed and launched during the 2 day visit We also made action plans and lists for additional tasks that the team can work on themselves.
A new theme was chosen to take advantage of new Shopify features and make the design more flexible and easy to update. We completely overhauled the homepage to add more information and show off the products and their beautiful shop on Iona. I especially love the new Shop The Window collection, highlighting seasonal and themed products from their current window display, so you can get a little bit of the experience of visiting the shop.
