Books & Blogging

My childhood career dreams started with astronaut but soon changed to journalist, writer and artist and it’s been difficult for me to choose between the two. Zines and blogging have allowed me do both.

Print & Digital Books, Zines & Comics

I started making zines (self-published magazines) in my bedroom as a teenager with subjects ranging from music to Smarties. I created a popular Tokyo Shopping Guide after my second trip to Japan in 2008, along with a Japan trip planning guide and travelogue book.

In July 2019, my first ‘real’ book was published by Pop Press/Penguin. The Super Cute Book of Kawaii is a guide to the world of kawaii with character profiles, fashion, beauty, shopping, DIY crafts and recipes, all of which I created, wrote and photographed myself (with the help of my amazing book designer Sophie and editor Laura).

I’ve continued creating zines and enjoy creating page layouts and designing covers, while developing skills in designing for both print and digital projects.

Blogging & Interviews

I ran a popular independent music website, diskant, from 1998-2003 and spent many of those years interviewing bands and photographing live events.

I then started the Super Cute Kawaii blog in 2008 and it’s still going strong with daily posts including shopping picks, reviews, craft tutorials, interviews, travel guides and lots more – even a quiz! I manage a small team of writers and we work regularly with brands like Etsy, TokyoTreat and Pusheen Box for sponsored content including reviews and videos.
